During Port Orchard Rotary’s 49th Annual Crab Feed and Auction, the club’s premier annual fundraiser, a separate 10-minute fundraiser was held in honor of Rotarian Frank Haberlach, who passed away earlier this year. During the event, which took place on April 22, $21,750 was raised, and will be donated in his name to an orphanage in the Far-East-Siberia region of Russia.

Haberlach, who had 24 years of perfect attendance as a Rotarian, was heavily involved in starting new Rotary clubs in that area during the 1990s. He also met his wife Irina there while working on Rotary’s behalf in Russia.

A $2,500 donation was also given by Haberlach’s youngest daughter, Katia, and her fiancée, Joseph Cho. An additional $500 was donated by an insurance industry group of which Haberlach was a longtime member.

The main Rotary auction unofficially raised in excess of $48,000 for local projects.
