Ellen Newberg recently retired from the Kitsap Regional Library (KRL), where she has been the library director for the past 16 years. Passionate about her work, during her tenure, library usage at KRLs nine libraries almost doubled.
Newbergs leadership kept KRL in step with the constantly changing times, and she was instrumental in introducing new, evolving technologies to reach out to and better serve library users.
Because of her dedication, the amount of resources available to library users has grown exponentially, as well as increased 24/7 availability via remote computer access at www.krl.org. Because of Newbergs determination to keep KRL at the forefront of the technological revolution, many traditional print resources have been replaced with online databases and Web resources.
Newberg took the lead in demonstrating the importance of strong community involvement by library leadership. Among her proudest achievements was leading library supporters in establishing the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation in 1991. The non-profit organization is dedicated to funding the continued development and enhancement of high quality library services for local residents. |
