| The Port of Bremerton's Port Orchard Marina has been certified as Kitsap's newest EnviroStar. The marina, located at 707 Sydney Parkway in Port Orchard, has demonstrated a commitment to protecting the environment by reducing and properly managing hazardous waste. It's been awarded four stars for its efforts.
As a result of the EnviroStars certification, the facility will also be designated a Clean Marina under a new partnership started this year between the National Marine Trade Association, the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, and the EnviroStars Cooperative.
The marina recycles all hazardous wastes, including oil, batteries, fluorescent tubes, and fuel, through licensed vendors. Spill response supplies are located at the fuel dock and in the maintenance shop, and secondary containment practices are also in place to prevent spills. Employees are trained annually in hazardous materials management and emergency spill response. The marina's commitment to protecting the environment in and around the facility is also communicated to its tenants through quarterly newsletters, and by distributing and posting its waste management and pollution prevention practices.
