Judge Sally Olsen Bar Association’s clear choice

Kitsap County Superior Court Judge Sally Olsen, appointed to the position earlier this year by then-Gov. Gary Locke, is seeking re-election. Olsen is being opposed by Jonathan R. Morrison of Port Orchard.

In appointing her, Locke said “She has the legal skills, the temperament and the experience to be a top-notch Superior Court judge.”

Locke is also among the Honorary Committee members for Olsen’s re-election. Other Honorary Committee members include Kitsap County Prosecutor Russell Hauge, county Sheriff Steve Boyer, Auditor Karen Flynn, Senior Kitsap County Superior Court Judge Leonard Costello and others.

“We believe she’s been doing a spectacular job …and is highly qualified,” said her campaign co-chair, attorney Ed Wolfe.

Of the 55 members of the Kitsap County Bar Association who voted, she was rated as “Highly Qualified” by 50 members and “Qualified” by five. Morrison was rated “Qualified by one member and “Not Qualified” by 48, with six abstaining.

Olsen, who lives on Bainbridge Island, has practiced law for nearly two decades before her judicial appointment. She has been a frequent judge pro-tem for district, municipal and tribal courts for over 10 years and is a former King County deputy prosecutor.
