Bremerton Housing Authority receives
top marks for 10th consecutive year

Audit confirms agency strength and commitment to fiscal responsibility

The Bremerton Housing Authority (BHA) recently received the results of its annual audit by the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the 2004 fiscal year. The report confirms BHA’s compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and marks the tenth consecutive year that the housing authority received the highest possible opinion given by the Auditor’s office.

Concurrently, HUD’s Real Estate Assessment Center has awarded BHA a Public Housing Assessment System Score of 93, which qualifies BHA as a “High Performer” in HUD’s eyes.

“This report confirms yet again that Bremerton Housing Authority delivers outstanding performance while exercising the up-most fiscal responsibility,” said BHA executive director Merrill Wallace. “Federal and state laws and regulations governing the work of Housing Authorities are incredibly complex, to receive 10 years of clean audits is a testament to the skills of our staff and the guidance of our Board of Commissioners.”

The financial report also calls out BHA’s role as an economic catalyst for the Bremerton community, and includes a number of highlights regarding the redevelopment of Westpark.
