Burnett publishes book on Bremerton

Bremerton artist and gallery owner Amy Burnett has added a new accomplishment to her long list recently, with the publication of a book titled “Amy’s Bremerton Window: Observational columns during a city’s revitalization.” The book, published by Perry Publishing of Thompson Falls, Mont., includes a preface from Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman.

“She was, and still is, a tireless supporter of the arts downtown,” Bozeman wrote. “Without Amy Burnett our downtown would have completely gone dark and it would have taken even longer to bring it back.”

Burnett kept her Amy Burnett Gallery open through the ‘80s, when the Bremerton downtown appeared dead. Her fine art paintings are well known throughout the country. She has been featured in various arts magazines, and published columns in the Kitsap Business Journal and the Bremerton Patriot. “Amy’s Bremerton Window” contains columns written between 2000 and 2005.

“These columns were written in the dawn of revitalization when the unexpected was the expected and realities were not always truisms. This was a time we stood holding the ingredients,” she wrote in the introduction to “Amy’s Bremerton Window.” “But no matter how we baked it, we couldn’t make a cake. Whose fault? Maybe the alignment of the stars, maybe bad timing, but in any case I observed a strange time in Bremerton’s history.”

The book, which sells for $35, also includes historical photos and sketches.
