The Bell Book and Candle bookstore on Bethel Avenue reopened in June, following the purchase of the business by Fran Cunningham and Rebecca Guthrie. Both are longtime residents of Kitsap County.

They purchased “BB & C” in late April and have been aggressively selecting and stocking the store with new inventory of the best of popular literary materials for both adults and for children. The store features a comfy reading alcove for adults and a nearby reading nook for children. In addition, the more esoteric of readers can special order through the store as well.

The store’s first special event was in July, celebrating the release of the latest Harry Potter book. Another event, planned for August, is the Back To School Reading Program. Children who read eight books or more, from Aug. 1 through 31, no matter where the books are purchased or borrowed, will be rewarded with a credit certificate for $8 at BB & C. Future events will include an after hours book discussion group, weekly storytelling for children, featured local authors’ book signings, and featured local artists displays.
