Grounds for Change, located in Poulsbo, in its continuing commitment to sustainable business practices, has recently partnered with Puget Sound Energys Green Power Program to offset all non-renewable energy (in the form of CO2 emissions) used in its Kitsap Peninsula roastery and in all facets of its business operations. The coffee roaster is the first business in Washington State to partner with Puget Sound Energy to offset 100 percent of its CO2 emissions.
Through the Green Power Program, Grounds for Change purchases green tags which off-set energy used in transporting the raw goods from warehouse facilities in California to their roastery in Washington State, energy used in the roasting process as well as energy used in shipping the finished goods to retail and wholesale customers across the country. The calculations also take into account employee business travel and commutes to and from the roasting facility.
The green tags the firm purchases through the program help to bring essential financing to wind farms and solar power projects in the Pacific Northwest. The renewable energy that is generated from these projects is then fed into the power-supply grid throughout the state of Washington. |
