Kilmer appointed to Joint Committee
on Veteran and Military Affairs

Kitsap Peninsula lawmaker, Derek Kilmer (D-Gig Harbor) was recently appointed to the State’s Joint Committee on Veteran Affairs.

The committee, which works with local veterans groups throughout the state, is comprised of representatives from both the House and Senate. Serving as an advisory committee, the bi-partisan group studies veteran, active military, National Guard, and reserve issues in conjunction with the state Department of Veterans Affairs.

“I’m proud of this region’s tradition of service to our country,” said Kilmer. “We have families with long histories of military service, prominent military installations, and a superb veterans’ facility in Retsil. Joining the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs offers me the chance to honor and assist those in our community and across the state who have served our nation, as well as those who are currently serving.”

In the past legislative session eleven veteran related bills were signed into law – many of which were the recommendations of the committee.

All members appointed to the committee will serve a two year term.
