Spargo re-elected to chair
Literacy Council board

Frank Spargo of Poulsbo has been re-elected chair of the Literacy Council of Kitsap’s Board of Directors. Other officers for the 2005-2006 program year are Anita Williams of Bremerton, vice chair; Analisa Sweat of Bremerton, secretary; and Jeff Parham of Port Orchard, treasurer.

Spargo is finance manager for the Bremerton Housing Authority. Williams is a retired marketing executive and longtime community volunteer, Sweat is a Realtor with Reid Realty and Parham is South Kitsap site manager for Kitsap Community Resources.

Newly inducted onto the board are Dan Bopp of Poulsbo, a meat quality specialist for Safeway; Mary Anne Mascianica of Bremerton, public relations officer for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard; Judy Reynolds of Port Orchard, a community activist; and Nick Tomassi of Silverdale, who writes a wine column for the Kitsap Sun.

Continuing on the board are Crystal Jackson, owner of Lee-Lee’s Creative Images Salon & Academy in Bremerton; Terry Schroeder, Department of Social and Health Services caseworker; and Joan Soriano, retired co-owner of Louis Soriano Insurance.

Continuing as community ambassadors are author Seabury Blair Jr.; Kitsap Credit Union President/Chief Executive Officer Elliot Gregg; retired Bremerton High School Principal Marilee Hansen; author Bonnie Graham McDade; Ron Muhleman, director of business development for the Kitsap Sun; Herb Myers, president and founder of Boxlight Corporation; Jeanie Schulze, Central Kitsap community relations director; and writer Ann Vogel.

The Literacy Council helps Kitsap adults aged 16 and older build their skills to get jobs or re-enter the work force with services they often cannot get elsewhere, including: individualized GED preparation, job-specific literacy tutoring, English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring, citizenship preparation, family literacy tutoring for parents, and tutoring in reading and other basic skills.
