911 cutover successful

Kitsap County Central Communications (9-1-1) is taking emergency phone calls at its new dispatch center.

The dispatch radios and 18 telephone trunks were turned over from the old building to the new facility in groups and then tested to ensure responders and callers could get to 9-1-1. The process was seamless to the residents of Kitsap County. Contingency plans were in place in the event of any system problems, however; none were needed during the smooth transition.

Fire department and law enforcement radios could be heard at both facilities prior to the phone calls being re-routed. Law enforcement officers helped test the system by calling 911 from cellular and landline phones throughout the county.

“We are all thrilled to be able to move into the new facility”, said Central Communications Director Ron McAffee. “The staff has worked very hard to get us to the new building. They are happy to be serving the community from a safe, clean facility. We want to thank the citizens for having the confidence in us to provide us with a new facility. The new building and equipment will serve the community well for many years to come.”.
