Bremerton, Bainbridge Island projects
to offer waterfront condos
By Rodika Tollefson

Those looking for some urban, luxurious living that doesn’t require things like mowing the lawn will soon have two options to choose from. Two waterfront condominium projects are under way, one in downtown Bremerton and another in Winslow on Bainbridge Island. Neither project broke ground yet, but both were already selling the units.

Harborside Condominiums in Bremerton, owned by the Kitsap Consolidated Housing Authority, had a planned June groundbreaking. Phase one of two will include 78 units, 43 of which have been reserved. After Absher Construction Co. of Puyallup was selected to build the concrete steel and glass structures, sale prices were set and reservations were being converted into sale and purchase agreements.

“It’s an irreplaceable location,” said Janice Heynes with Reid Real Estate, which is marketing the units. “We have a captive audience. For years, people wanted to sell their waterfront homes and go into something nice but didn’t have any options.”

The condos are a perfect fit for those downsizing from luxury homes but also for young professionals and anyone else looking for luxury living in the middle of downtown, she said. Anthony’s Homeport is starting construction next door, the ferry is within walking distance, the marina will be expanded, and various revitalization projects are changing the face of downtown, making it a very attractive place to live.

Harborside includes one- to three-bedroom units, priced between $319,000 to $1.2 million, with secured underground parking. Heynes said units were available in all the price ranges. The project was expected to be complete in late-summer or fall of 2006.

On Bainbridge Island, the Harbor Square condominiums and townhomes project was set to break ground in mid-July. Located one block from the ferry terminal, the project is being developed and built by Opus Northwest.

“We are getting a lot of interest from people all over the world,” said Janice Merrill Brown, community sales manager with Williams Marketing. Already, 71 of 180 units have been sold by mid-May. The complex will include five buildings with single-level condos and three buildings with townhomes. One- to three-bedrooms are available, priced between $200,000 to $900,000.

Planned amenities include a community park, underground parking, a fitness center, guest suit, theater room and community room with a lending library. A total of 15,000 square feet of retail space will be built under two of the townhome-style buildings.

Harbor Square appeals to first-time buyers as well as those commuting to Seattle, looking for a second home, or downsizing, Brown said. Completion is expected by spring of next year.
