BlueJackets looking at rookie season sellout
By Lary Coppola

Officials of the Kitsap BlueJackets, the locally owned minor league baseball team set to begin play this season, recently announced that as of mid-March, it had already sold 51 corporate sponsorships, encompassing 91 percent of its total available outfield signage.

The team, which is a charter member of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League, will open at home on June 10, against the Aloha Knights — the 2004 National Baseball Congress World Series Champions — and play a total of 25 home games against both league and non-league opponents.

The BlueJackets will play in a new ballpark at the Kitsap County Fair and Special Events Center at the Fairgrounds in East Bremerton — located across the street from the Kitsap Pavilion.

According to team spokesman Steve Stagner, the BlueJackets have also sold 73, 30-second radio spots to be broadcast during the games on Megatalk 1400, KITZ. The maximum number of radio ads available is 96 — equating to a 76 percent sellout of the available time.

Stagner also noted that 420 of 500 Reserved Seats, or 85 percent, are already sold, and advance General Admission Seats are 50 percent — 350 out of a possible 700 — spoken for. All the reserved and general admission seats sold have been to season ticket holders.

The remaining reserved seat season tickets are currently available for $150. General admission seasons tickets area also available for $100.

Stagner added that advertising space in the season program is close to being sold out as well, but there is still a small amount of ad space left.

The team has also partnered with a number of elementary schools and will have over 5,000 students participating in the BlueJacket Cadet Club. Teachers will reward student achievement with tickets to baseball games. The partnership also allows for school musical groups to perform before and during BlueJackets games. Currently, the South Kitsap School District is the largest participant in the program.

It also appears the BlueJackets have secured a flyover by the US Navy of EA6B Prowlers for opening night. The US Navy Band is also being secured for the evening’s festivities. A VIP reception co-sponsored by The Sun for all corporate sponsors will also be held on opening night starting at 4:30.
