Port passes resolution supporting
SK school levy

The Port of Bremerton Commissioners recently passed a resolution at their Jan. 11 meeting in support of the South Kitsap School levy.

The resolution states in part that, “The Port’s mission of attracting new businesses and family wage jobs so important to the economic vitality of the South Kitsap area will be furthered to the extent that our school districts are able to provide well funded and excellent educational systems.”

Mary Ann Huntington, Port Commissioner representing the South Kitsap area said, “Levy failures have a detrimental affect on the entire community in terms of business and economic development.”

“Passage of this levy will continue the current programs in our district and attract new and expanding businesses,” Commissioner Cheryl Kincer agreed, stating that, “Passage of the levy would be good for the area constituents.”

The mission of the Port of Bremerton is to develop and promote business, industrial, maritime and aviation facilities and services for the purpose of inducing capital investment and employment opportunities through new and expanding businesses within the Port District. Commissioner Bill Mahan noted that, “Good education programs are quality of life issues important to business owners.”

The Port owns and operates the Olympic View Business and Industrial Park and Bremerton National Airport, located on Highway 3 in South Kitsap.
