Harrison staff give to tsunami relief effort

Harrison Hospital has made it possible for the numerous employees that have inquired how they can best help the victims of the Southeast Asia tsunamis and the humanitarian crisis they’ve created to donate the value of annual leave hours.

“We know monetary donations are the most helpful right now,” explains new president and CEO Scott Bosch.

“Translating annual leave into dollars is one way we can make a difference.” Over $2,500 in staff donations of annual leave so far have been earmarked for the International Response Fund of the Kitsap chapter of the American Red Cross.

Harrison is donating medical supplies also. “In such times of crisis, it’s not uncommon for healthcare workers to share their skills where the need is greatest,” says Bosch. “We’ll continue to send critical medical supplies with anyone from Harrison who travels to assist in this relief effort.”

One Harrison physician, whose family has been affected by the tsunamis in southern India, is traveling to the Andam and Nicobar islands to help establish field hospitals with donations of supplies from local area hospitals, including Harrison. Dr. Rajnikanth Narayanan, of Puyallup, is a hospitalist with South Sound Inpatient Physicians, the private physician group of hospitalists that serves Harrison.
