AMI International:
Naval Marketing Intelligence. Huh?

Naval marketing intelligence…these words usually inspire “cloak and dagger” images. For Bremerton based AMI International they represent a successful business opportunity. AMI specializes in tracking naval industrial activities around the world. Currently, AMI follows 151 countries and approximately 550 new naval ship construction projects worldwide comprised of nearly 4,000 vessels worth over $530 billion. The company produces comprehensive naval intelligence reports for governments, ship builders, marine equipment manufacturers, and defense contractors.

For over 20 years, AMI has developed leading-edge technologies and processes for acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating naval market intelligence. Its product line features a Worldwide Naval Projections Report™ which details and assesses the future buying needs of the world’s navies, and World Missile Systems Database™ which provides technology and performance specifications of missiles used around the world. Furthermore, AMI has developed The Naval Ship Transfer Assessment™, the first report of its kind, outlining a 10 year perspective on the used naval ship market. The company also produces detailed country and market specific reports for select customers.

AMI is also in the process of developing a wide array of new products. Currently under development is a comprehensive photo library of various ships and naval ship systems used around the world, and an existing surface combatant database that will detail existing ship classes and their systems.

When asked what the company’s greatest achievement has been in the past five years, Guy Stitt, President and founder of AMI spoke about creating a work environment that is both professional and relaxed yet promotes the well being of all employees. This combination has yielded extremely successful results. “We operate as a highly integrated and effective team,” Stitt said enthusiastically. “I believe that if we keep our people happy, they will do their best to keep our customers happy.”

Stitt considers Bremerton a good place to do business. He cited the access to highly qualified ex-navy personnel coupled with housing affordability and the community’s extraordinary quality of life has made Bremerton a business-friendly community.

Ever community minded, Stitt is also the President for the Puget Sound Naval Bases Association. “It is important that the Navy and the community work together to promote the greater good of Kitsap County,” he explained. However, Stitt is not the only AMI employee that is community minded.

Last year, AMI employees donated to the YWCA’s Alive Shelter and purchased phone cards for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center so they could call home for Christmas. “We all believe it is important to participate in and give back to the community,“ said Stitt.
