Health District awards environmental
recognition to local businesses

Twenty-two local businesses became EnviroStars in 2004. These businesses demonstrated their commitment to the environment by voluntarily seeking certification in the Kitsap County Health District’s EnviroStars program. The EnviroStars program helps businesses reduce and prevent hazardous waste as well as giving incentives and recognition for reducing waste and preventing pollution. It also gives consumers an objective way to identify environmentally sound businesses.

The largest growth in the program during 2004 occurred in the dental industry with 12 new dental offices becoming certified. The number of dental offices in the program doubled, and there were 3 veterinary clinics added, the first marina and several other businesses. Businesses earn from 2 to 5 stars, the more proactive they are with managing their waste the higher the star rating.
