The Bremerton Rotary Club has recently completed the distribution of 372 copies of the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary to all third graders at the elementary schools in the district except Naval Avenue, whose dictionaries were sponsored by American Financial Solutions. Each dictionary came with a sticker with the child’s name on it.

This is the second year Bremerton Rotary has donated the dictionaries to the schoolchildren. The project was initiated last year by former Rotary President Marilee Hansen because she felt it was vital to encourage learning and literacy at the elementary level. Studies have shown that students need to know how to read well by the 3rd grade if they are to have success in school.
