Bremerton-Kitsap Airporter
celebrates 25th anniversary

On Oct. 7, the Bremerton-Kitsap Airport (Kitsap Airporter) marked its 25th year of business in Kitsap County. It is also the 20th anniversary of serving the military and civilian population at Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB.

During this 25-year period, over 1.7 million passengers were carried on the two routes. Currently, over 10,000 passengers per month are carried on the Kitsap route and another 1,500 at Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB

Richard E. and Helen N. Asche founded the Kitsap Airporter in 1979 with three ford vans and then added a Volkswagen bus soon afterwards because of it’s better gas mileage. The VW bus is still runs, although it’s not in use.
