Time to remind employees about
winter storm policies

It’s the season again to remind employees about your organization’s winter storm policies. Review the procedures to follow when snow falls or ice begins to form.

  • Clearly state the organization’s position on emergency closings.
  • Explain what employees should do to find out about closings.
  • Identify the “essential” and “non-essential” personnel likely to be affected by the bad weather policy.
  • Explain what employees should do if they cannot get to work because of hazardous conditions.
  • Indicate what workers should do if they already are at work and thee is a weather emergency.
  • Be flexible.
  • Decide whether closures can be made up for by vacation, sick or extra work on another day.
  • Remember the docking restrictions on exempt employees.
