Bremerton Soroptimist celebrates
60 years of service

Soroptimist International of greater Bremerton (SIGB) celebrated 60 years of community service on Sept. 18.

Soroptimist International of greater Bremerton, chartered June 1, 1944, is one of more than 2700 Clubs in 66 countries with nearly 100,000 members. Elaine Allen, charter member, still lives in Bremerton and is an active member serving as program chairman and on the Sunshine Committee. Allen was president in 1961-62.

SIGB is a non-profit volunteer worldwide service organization for women in business, management and the professions working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. In Bremerton, SIGB annually contributes over $5,000 to service projects such as providing disabled accessible playground equipment to the Bremerton Park (NAD) on Kitsap Way, donating to the Alive Shelter, Literacy Council Spelling Bee, Festival of Trees, Salvation Army camperships, and awarding scholarships to Olympic College.
