Port of Bremerton inks agreement with SEED

The Port of Bremerton recently announced its authorization of an ambitious economic development initiative for a portion of its property near the Bremerton National Airport. The project is to be pursued as a result of an agreement entered into with Sustainable Synergy; a local business recently formed by Mark Frost of Business Infrastructure Services, LLC, and former county commissioner Tim Botkin of Sustainable Solutions.

The agreement is centered on the concept of developing a business campus at the Port of Bremerton site to support the renewable and sustainable energy and building technology industries. The agreement also calls for aggressive national and international recruitment of firms in this fast-growing field to participate in the design and operation of a unique campus geared towards developing, demonstrating and marketing these technologies.

Frost has been active in promoting Kitsap SEED (Sustainable Economic and Energy Development) for the past year. He’s had help from Congressman Jay Inslee’s New Apollo Project, which funded a grant to help him advance the concept, and has received additional support from Senator Maria Cantwell. Possible future government support includes the potential investment of millions of dollars over the coming decade to catalyze research, development and creation of jobs from new energy sources.

“The legislative approach is important, but this concept needs to be driven by business to be truly successful and wide-reaching” noted Frost.

The agreement states that over a period of roughly six months, a concept master plan will be developed for the campus using sustainable building techniques; interested businesses will be invited to participate in the design of the campus; and a list of businesses interested in bringing their industry technology and new jobs to Kitsap County will be created.
