Bainbridge Island’s Sound Publishing, Inc. has been awarded the Civilian Enterprise contract to publish the new regional newspaper for the U.S. Navy.

The new publication will serve the Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and at Naval Station Everett.

Combining the three regions into one publication means that the current publications, the Northwest Navigator, the Crosswind, and the Everett Dispatch will cease publication effective Sept. 30 when the new contract takes effect.

Sound Publishing, which publishes all the local weekly newspapers in Kitsap County as well as those in several surrounding areas, is a subsidiary of Black Press, Limited of Victoria B.C. The company owns 80 newspapers in Canada, Washington State and Hawaii.
