Local health and human service agencies will benefit from another good year of United Way funding thanks to a second year of record breaking campaigns and the generosity of Kitsap Counties many community investors who recognize the good work of United Ways partner agencies.
Once again Kitsap County residents have displayed the generosity that makes this such a great place to live, states David Foote, Executive Director of United Way of Kitsap County. Our community knows what matters and that is results. United Way partner agencies get results everyday by providing housing for homeless families, providing safe and affordable daycare for working families, and job training and placement for those trying desperately to become self-sufficient.
Funds raised during the fall are allocated to local health and human service partner agencies in the spring. The allocation process includes agency applications for funding, thorough review of those applications, an interview with each agency, and consideration of how each agencys programs help meet the most critical needs faced by Kitsap residents.

In addition to approving funding for 2004, the Board also approved Bainbridge Island Interfaith Volunteers as a partner agency. They will be eligible for funding in the next funding allocation cycle in 2005.
State and Federal budget cuts are having a devastating impact on health and human services, continues Foote. We all have to remember that an investment through United Way is an investment in a stronger, more vibrant community. United Way is the glue that helps hold the health and human services agencies together through its annual fundraising campaign and its core of dedicated volunteers. United Way provides these agencies, through the generosity of its many community investors that last piece of funding that enables what matters results. |
