The North Kitsap School District Maintenance Facility has earned certification as an EnviroStar. The facility, located at 9916 NE W. Kingston Road, Kingston, has demonstrated a commitment to protecting the environment by reducing and properly managing hazardous waste.
The maintenance facility services a fleet of 100 buses. The shop recycles antifreeze, used oil, scrap metal, tires, aluminum, and paper products. The facility installed emission control devices on all buses to reduce air pollution from particulates and oxides of nitrogen. To prevent and contain spills, the shop uses secondary containers, funnels, catch pans and pumps. Spill absorbent materials are located throughout the shop. Each year the facility undergoes two inspections by the Washington State Patrol. For the past 10 years in a row, they have received outstanding inspection results from State Patrol.
