Olympic College Poulsbo campus dedicated

Olympic College Poulsbo was formally dedicated on Feb, 12. The 20-acre hillside location overlooking Liberty Bay and Mount Rainier has been ten years in the making and Olympic College Poulsbo students and staff members were eager to show off their beautiful new campus, which has received such enthusiastic support.

The $12.9 million dollar facility was designed to take advantage of many forms of distance learning in connection with Olympic College’s main campus in Bremerton and Olympic College Shelton as well as the Internet, interactive television instruction, and in-class presentations. Student amenities such as a mini bookstore and food service are all in place. Over 600 students registered for the first term of operation, winter quarter 2004. Olympic College Poulsbo will ultimately serve approximately 1000 students.

The initial curriculum offers a range of college transfer classes, Running Start, and professional-technical programs such as computer science and administrative office technology. By fall quarter, the college’s renowned nursing program will be relocated to the new campus so that it can expand to meet demand. Many students looked forward to participating in student government and to shaping the programs and activities for Olympic College Poulsbo.

Architect Miller-Hull developed a distinctive Northwest theme with the generous use of native woods and natural light. It cost over $3 million to equip and furnish the 39,000 square-foot facility.
