West Sound Academy (WSA), an independent, college preparatory school for students in grades 612, recently announced the planned construction of a new 20,000 square foot facility adjacent to the Northwest College of Art in Poulsbo. Located just off highway 305, Phase I of the campus will include four buildings of 5,000 square feet each to house its academic and arts programs.
An ideal location for environmental science, the schools 20 acres are already considered a teaching laboratory. Two buildings will house state-of-the-art science laboratories. One of these buildings will also have four general classrooms and a central gathering space, while the other will have a large drama space and two classrooms. A Fine Arts building will house, studio art, dance, music and gallery space. A Media Center will contain the library, computer labs, and administrative offices.
Additional phased development will include construction of another classroom building, a multi-purpose building, athletic field and tennis courts and a performing arts center that will provide theater space for the community, visiting artist studios, and a meeting hall.
Tim Ryan Construction, Inc. has been contracted by Norum Properties to build the campus, which will be funded by Frontier Bank. Ground breaking will occur late this spring, with the new campus opening for the fall of 2005.
The school plans to remain in its Suquamish location for the next school year, moving into the new campus during the summer months of 2005. Applications are underway for this coming fall, with limited openings in grades 611. WSA does not accept admissions applications for the 12th grade. |
