A new volunteer greeter program at Harrison aims to enhance the emergency room experience for patients at the main hospital campus in East Bremerton.

Emergency Department Greeters are a specialized team of volunteers, age 18 and older who receive advanced training. Those selected to the unique program:

• Are compassionate and nonjudgmental
• Are comfortable with diverse groups of people
• Enjoy working as a team
• Remain calm in intense situations
• Are not queasy at the sight of blood
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Commit to working one 4- or 8-hour shift weekly for a minimum of one year. (Schedules are adapted to meet personal needs.)
