Kitsap County Board of Commissioners Chair Jan Angel is one of only 14 county officials in the state to complete certification as a Certified Public Official (CPO), and represents Kitsap County as part of the first class of CPO graduates. The CPO program is designed to provide elected officials in Washington State with continuing education and leadership training. The CPO program is a collaborative effort between Washington State University, The Washington Association of Counties, the Washington Association of County Officials, Washington Counties Risk Pool, and the County Road Administration Board.
Certified Public Official training has been a goal Ive worked on for the past three years, said Angel. Through comprehensive study of local government, I hope to draw on many more options and resources to aid our community and our citizens.
Core courses for the designation include: Financial Management; Ethics And Public Service; Risk Management; County Government Structure Roles And Responsibilities; and Personnel and Human Services. Several other elective courses, ranging from leadership training to media relations, are also offered.
Angels CPO certification adds to her leadership roles as chair of the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council (KRCC), the CENCOM 911 Policy Board, and the County Emergency Management Board. She is a member of the boards of the Kitsap Health District, the Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority, Kitsap Transit, the Fire Safety Board, the Kitsap Regional Economic Development Council, and on numerous task forces, including the Kitsap International Trade Council.
Angel is also president-elect of the Western District of the Washington Association of Counties and serves regionally on the boards of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, the Olympic Consortium Board, the Central Puget Sound Economic Development District, the Peninsula Regional Support Network, and the Washington Association of Counties Urban County Caucus. |
