HBA recognizes best of the best
in 2003 Parade of Homes |
August 22 was an exciting night for local builders as the winners of the 2003 Parade of Homes were announced at a gala awards banquet held at Kitsap Golf and Country Club. The event was emceed by former president of the association and a lifetime director, Jim Smalley.
The Parade of Homes is the Kitsap County Homebuilders Associations (HBA) annual showcase of its members best work. The event was held the weekend of August 9 and 10 and featured two showcase homes, 12 new for sale homes, eight custom homes and 4 remodeled homes.
Every year, thousands of Kitsap Peninsula residents who are looking to buy or build a new home or remodel their existing home visit the homes in the Parade.
On Saturday, Aug. 9, two teams of judges visited each home in the Parade. The judges were: Elizabeth Best, a commercial real estate broker from Bellevue; Jim Groves, a contractor from Port H

adlock; and Rob Stewart, a builder from Bellevue. The three toured and judged the for sale homes. Three other judges, Tim Wing, a real estate broker from Belfair and formerParade winner; Marianne Moe, a builder from Port Ludlow; and Jim Reed, a builder from Carlsborg, near Sequim, toured and judged the custom and remodeled homes.
They made the choices for each of the five price categories for the for sale homes, the two price categories for the custom homes and remodels, the special awards and best in show for sale, custom and remodel winners. The two Showcase Homes were special projects provided for the public to view and tour, but were not judged.
There were also special awards given for the best implementation of the Built Green program, best hospitality, best use of space and excellent remodeling value.
This is an exciting event, said 2003 Parade Committee Chair Patti Lawson Darling of Pacific Northwest Bank. It provides the opportunity for those looking to build, considering buying a new home, remodeling their home or just dream building to visit homes built or remodeled by our communities top builders and remodelers.
