The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation has awarded $500 scholarships to three graduating high school seniors who live in the North Kitsap area.
Those selected for this initial award of scholarships were Beth Ann Hanson graduating from Kings West High School, Jennifer Nicole Johnson of North Kitsap High School, and Shannon Marie Crabtree from West Sound Academy. The main criteria for selection were students who had demonstrated community service activities that highlight positive character, citizenship, and self-reliance.
We wanted to reward deserving students that have made contributing to their community a priority in their lives, Foundation President Pete DeBoer said.
These scholarships came from various fund raising activities by the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club The club meets every Thursday at 7 a.m. at the Kingston Inn. The funds from one scholarship alone came from the clubs newspaper recycling bin located in the Kingston Thriftway shopping center parking lot.
