County considers ‘market-value’ fees for parks

The Kitsap County Department of Facilities, Parks and Recreation has proposed a policy that established a process to set rates for park facilities use. The policy came come before the Board of Commissioners at a June 23 public hearing.

County staffers recommended the fee schedule encourage and promote the use of county facilities by charitable nonprofit organizations, schools and local governments.

Under the new fee schedule, users shoulder the cost of their use. Fees proposed for private sector or for-profit organizations will reflect the cost and current market value for each facility.

Fees for the use of community centers and meeting rooms are waived for each public school district and local government agency that enters into a reciprocal agreement, allowing the county to host similar functions at comparable facilities at no cost to the county.
