U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee recently anounced that Kitsap Transit will receive a $332,500 Federal Transit Administration grant to purchase 20 new transit vans, retrofit six older transit vans, and purchase additional equipment. These vans will provide job site transportation to low-income workers living in areas of Kitsap County where fixed-route service is minimal.
Kitsap County workers need viable transportation options, especially given the nature of our geography and economic centers, Inslee said. The funding provided by the Federal Transit Administration will give our region more transportation options, help workers keep good jobs, and maintain Kitsap business vitality.
Public transportation is also a great way to ease traffic congestion, save money, and reduce pollution, he said. |
