BRAC Task Force filling ranks

Kitsap County is calling on public and private organizations to lend support and expertise for Base Realignment and Closure Response Task Force (BRAC) subcommittees. Such an effort will benefit both the military and civilian sectors of Kitsap County. Team chairs were appointed Monday by the Board of County Commissioners. Now, committee members are needed to map key community features that will be included in a comprehensive report lauding community resources.

“The military community is the heart beat of Kitsap County,” said Will Lent, chair of the County BRAC Task Force. “This task force will illustrate our ability to support the bases and a growing naval community.”

Subsequently, fundamental statistics about the county will comprise a detailed report, including community development and housing; economic development; business support; community diversity; educational facilities; community infrastructure and telecommunications; employment and military transition assistance; human services; law enforcement; medical facilities; city and state support; transportation services; and recreation. The report will accompany key activists to Washington, D.C. for a national discussion late this summer and in the fall of 2004.

Submit nominations for subcommittee membership to County BRAC Response Administrator Corina DuBois at cdubois@mail1.co.kitsap.wa.us or (360) 337-4448.
