On May 16 the tribal leaders of the Suquamish Nation in conjunction with the board of directors of Port Madison Enterprises distributed Appendix X fees on behalf of The Clearwater Casino to local recipients.
Appendix X fees are monies set aside from slot machine revenues earmarked to benefit community organizations and are accumulated by The Clearwater Casino and then passed through to the tribal government for disbursement to worthy charities.
It is the intention of this program to benefit both tribal and non-tribal organizations. The Clearwater Casino through The Suquamish Tribal Council will provide $36,074 in donations to non-tribal organizations and $28,595 to organizations associated with the Tribe.
Some of the top awardees are:
- Canoe Hosting, Chuck Wagner $10,000
- Tribal Administration $7,000; Flash freezing salmon, butchering of elk and deer for elders, purchasing clams, oysters for tribal functions (Chief Seattle Days/Canoe hosting).
- Shore Net Food Bank $5,000; Provide food to individuals and families in need.
Jerome Jainga $5,000; Secure funds for certified teacher/tutor to assist with educational needs of Suquamish Youth.
- Kingston Junior High School Library $4,774.50; Purchase books by and about Native Americans for the Native American Curriculum Enrichment Project.
