As we enter the spring season its time to get the house in shape. Painting can be a great lift to the spirit and the house. The key to any paint job is the correct paint for the job.
For interior the new healthier paints out there have really improved the livability for the occupants. Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints are produced by most paint manufactures today and will really stop the strong paint odor that bothers many folks. The standard latex paint usually has a voc rating of 250 to 350. The low voc has a 0 to 20 with most of the chemicals coming from the color added to the base mix.
We started using the Healthier paint in 1991. Since then the improvements have made the durability and user-friendly side of the paint a great product.
The reputation that it was hard to use was well founded in the first few generations of the product. Later improvements have made it a great choice if you have children, older clients or prone to headaches from painting. The odor is nearly gone in 24 to 48 hrs after application.
One word of caution even though it has less toxic materials it is still not non-toxic and care should be used to ventilate while painting and dispose of it correctly after. |
