Homeland Security coordinator hired

John Szymanski joins the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management as the regional coordinator for Homeland Security. Szymanski will work with emergency management jurisdictions to coordinate homeland security efforts throughout the region.

The region includes; Clallam County, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Jefferson County, Kitsap County, Lower Elwha Tribe, Makah Tribe, City of Port Angeles, and the Suquamish Tribe.

Szymanski has worked at various locations in the U.S. and Canada and brings management and planning experience to the position. He is a retired operations manufacturing director for McDonnell Douglas and Boeing.

Szymanski holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and an Associate of Science degree from Golden West College. He has other educational accomplishments including Gemba Kaizen (Lean Manufacturing) in Japan.

Szymanski is a current board member of the Washington State Association of Boundary Review Boards. He resides with his wife in Poulsbo and has two grown daughters and four grandchildren in Southern California.
