Exploring Alzheimer’s, free 10-week program

Individuals experiencing symptoms of early stage memory loss will have a chance to meet others in the same situation. The free 10-session program, is offered by the Alzheimer’s Association Western and Central Washington State Chapter in cooperation with Kitsap County Aging and Long-term Care Services, Martha and Mary Health Center, Alterra Clare Bridge of Silverdale and Port Orchard Group Health Cooperative.

The program starts Mar. 5 and will meet at the First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants will meet once a week with trained facilitators to learn about the causes of memory loss, strategies for managing day-to-day life, building self-esteem, and to hear about legal and financial plans they will want to make. A concurrent group for family members, friends or companions will meet at the same location.

Participants must be able to verbalize their concerns and exhibit a willingness to look inside themselves for insight. Space is limited so pre-register by calling Patricia Hunter at the Alzheimer’s Association at (800) 848-7097. There is no cost for participants.
