After a sale and a name change, the Key Peninsulas three main grocery stores are once again fully stocked. Walts Find Foods in Key Center and Lake Kathryn have been renamed Peninsula Market after the sale to Stoltz Northwest Inc. The Purdy store it also bought continues to do business as Bridgeway Market.
Stoltz, a privately held company, took possession of the three grocery stores on November 22, of last year after buying them from former long-time owner, Walter Schmidt of Key Center. Stoltz employs about 100 people, with approximately half of them working on the Peninsula.
Kip Bonds has responsibility for overseeing all three stores as well as stores owned by Stoltz on Vashon Island and in Renton. Company owner Donald Stoltz, visits each one of his stores on a weekly basis.
Building a new Key Center store about twice the size of the existing one is under consideration for a couple of years down the road.
The stores also give a one percent rebate to nonprofit organizations. If they collect Peninsula Market receipts and bring them in, with the exception of certain items and taxes, the firm will rebate one percent of the total. |
