Great Kitsap Duck Race ranks
among tops in nation

The Silverdale, “Great Kitsap Duck Race,” finished last year as the eleventh largest duck race in the country, according to GAME, the Phoenix-based organization that provides racing ducks to more than 600 events worldwide.

Staged since 1993 by the Rotary Club of Silverdale, the local Derby raced 18,900 ducks in 2002 beat out such cities as New York, Pittsburgh, and Rapid City.
“What Silverdale has done is incredible,” said Eric Schechter, president of GAME. “To be ranked in the Top 20 is quite an achievement.”

The top 10 are, Cincinnati, Ohio; Eugene, Ore.; Kennewick, Wash.; Aspen, Colo.; Redding, Calif.; Evansville, Ind.; Port Angeles, Wash.; Roseburg, Ore.; Ketchum, Idaho; and Kearney, Neb.
