Martha & Mary nursing achieves perfection

Martha and Mary Health Services, a nonprofit 190-bed nursing facility in Poulsbo, received official state notification in December that the annual facility inspection revealed zero deficiencies.

That translates to a perfect score on a difficult examination.

“We like to talk about our high quality services here at Martha & Mary and this survey just helps confirm those things,” administrator Chad Solvie said. “The community places a lot of trust in this organization and we have dedicated employees who deliver day after day for us.”

A team of surveyors from the Department of Social and Health Services, Aging and Adult Services must inspect each licensed nursing home annually.

The purpose of the inspection is to assure that the nursing home is in substantial compliance with Medicare and Medicaid program requirements as well as state law. The survey determines whether or not a nursing home will be able to accept residents who receive Medicare or Medicaid benefits.

A team of six surveyors spends five days in a facility. The inspection looks at all areas of operations, quality of resident care, safety, and resident satisfaction.

The range of deficiencies for nursing homes in Washington is zero to 39, with the average at nine.

Martha & Mary Health Services has also been selected to receive up to $10,832 in a conservation grant from Puget Sound Energy. The grant will cover half the cost of upgrading 340 light fixtures in the 101,000-square-foot facility.
