Play takes off at BPA, orchestra performs

The final production in Bainbridge Performing Arts’ (BPA) new Adult Contemporary Series, “The Recollection of Flight” premieres at The Playhouse on Bainbridge Island, Oct. 18-20.

The Recollection of Flight is a wartime musical theater that tells the story of three young men — and their sweethearts, families, and comrades — as they leave their New Jersey homes for the war. The idea for the play came to playwright Paul Lewis as he read through a cache of letters his father had sent home from the war-ravaged Anzio beachhead during the winter and spring of 1944.

The two-act production is suitable for PG-13 audiences. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Also the Bainbridge Orchestra concert of the season begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 27. The program features beloved masterpieces from the Baroque and Classical periods. These include the first Concerto grosso of Handel’s Opus 6 for two violins, cello, string ensemble and harpsichord, and selections from the music Schubert wrote in 1823 for the Romantic drama Rosamunde.

Tickets are $9 for students/seniors and $15 for adults. They are available at The Playhouse, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island, or may be charged by phone at (206) 842-8569. BPA Box Office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit Bainbridge Performing Arts on the World Wide Web at www.theplayhouse.org.
