The Department of Licensing has fined a Bellevue-based collection agency and is requiring the company to review state regulations for collection agencies with employees who contact Washington residents.
Nationwide Credit, Inc., received a $2,000 fine for contacting an individual more than three times in a week. This is a violation of state law.
If the business violates the terms of the states ruling, or continues to contact individuals at a higher frequency than allowed, it could face additional disciplinary action.
Washington state law prohibits harassing, intimidating or threatening conduct in connection with the collection of a debt. Nearly 800 collection agencies are licensed to collect in Washington State.
