United Way kicks off annual campaign

United Way of Kitsap County recently held its annual fundraising campaign lickoff luncheon.

Allen Schauffler of KING 5 News was the guest speaker. He co-anchors KING 5 News at 10 p.m. weeknights on KONG TV 6/16 with Lori Matsukawa.

“Each person in our community benefits from United Way, directly or indirectly,” said Barbara Stephenson, executive director at United Way of Kitsap County. “One in three people use the services of United Way agencies each year. That means if you haven’t used them yourself, you know someone who has.”

United Way hopes to raise $1.75 million during this year’s campaign, a five percent increase over its 2001 campaign. Funds raised support a wide range of Health and Human Services, including child and elder care, help for homeless and struggling families, health care and other community services.
