Munros receive humanities award

Ralph and Karen Munro will receive the 2002 Washington Humanities Award from the Washington Commission for the Humanities (WCH).

Karen Munro was the WCH’s first paid employee. She served on the board of trustees and also served on the board of the Federation for State Humanities Councils. She has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on behalf of WCH and the other state humanities councils and continues to be a strong, articulate supporter.

Ralph Munro, five-term Secretary of State, is a good friend of the humanities, known for bipartisanship and civic activism. Since 2001, he has been active through the Ralph Munro Seminars for Teachers, VoteHere, and the Ralph Munro Endowment for Civic Education at Western Washington University.

This fall, he begins a term as President of the Seattle Downtown Rotary.
