TimberGrass featured in Green House at the Puyallup

Bainbridge Island’s TimberGrass, will showcase its bamboo flooring will once again in the Green House at the Puyallup Fair Sept. 6-22. A project of Pierce County Public Works and Utilities, the Green House features recycled and low-impact building materials.

Bamboo has gained popularity as a quality hardwood that complies with specifications of the nation’s growing number of green design professionals. Plantation grown in managed agricultural plots by independent farmers, the Moso bamboo used in TimberGrass products is harvested at six years, leaving behind a thriving plant and new shoots. Hardwoods take up to 120 years to grow to maturity and harvest kills the tree.

With only 0.02 mg formaldehyde per cubic meter of air, the lamination adhesive used by TimberGrass off-gasses 6.5 times less than allowed under the stringent European (E1) standards, which are stricter than those in the U.S.

TimberGrass is an active member of Business for Social Responsibility’s Green Cargo and Green Freight task forces, and follows the principals of The Natural Step program, which focuses on applying basic concepts of sustainability, to build a company that is environmentally, socially, and economically responsible.
