Referendum 51, on the Nov. 5 ballot, is the transportation funding package for the state, concentrated in the Puget Sound Area.
Referendum 51 would, upon approval of voters statewide, authorize funding to be spent on highway safety improvements, traffic congestion relief, freight mobility and multi-modal projects, including ferries and public transit.
Funding for these projects would be provided through increases in the state gas tax, sales tax on vehicles and truck weight fees, as well as the proceed from bond sales. The measure would also create a transportation accountability board, whose responsibility is to monitor the efficient use of transportation funds. |
