Harbor judge looks to support Peninsula
at county level

By filing to run for Pierce County’s District Court position six, Gig Harbor Municipal Court Judge Mike Dunn is fighting to keep a significant Gig Harbor area judicial presence in the county’s district court system. The court’s position six “unofficially” represents the Peninsula. Gig Harbor-based District Court Two no longer exists after a consolidation of Pierce County’s four district courts last month.

Dunn, who has been appointed as Gig Harbor’s judge twice, would like to revive the effort to create a City of Gig Harbor-Pierce County partnership where the jurisdictions could share staff as well as court space and staff. City and county staff have researched the idea, but the county council hasn’t officially considered it.

Dunn will run against Maggie Ross, a district court commissioner from Tacoma.
