Theresa Schroeder of Bremerton was recently elected as chair of the Literacy Council of Kitsap’s Board of Directors. She is community resource program manager for the Department of Social and Health Services.

Other officers for the 2002-2003 program year are Vivian Harris, vice chair; Cheryl Sharp, secretary; and DeDe Teeters, treasurer. Joining the board are Marilee Hansen, Kathy Avery and Laura Eliason.

Continuing on the board are Olympic College educational advisor Elaine Bryant; Jack Kinert, a retired OC instructor; and Jim Hall, owner of Reflections Bed & Breakfast. Retired Central Kitsap teacher and longtime tutor, Jen Southworth, is an honorary board member.

Community ambassadors include well-known outdoors author Seabury Blair Jr., Eugene Hertzke, retired superintendent of Central Kitsap School District (CKSD); Elliot Gregg, chief executive officer of the Kitsap Community Federal Credit Union; author Bonnie Graham McDade; Ron Muhleman, director of business development for The Sun; Boxlight Corp.
