Now in its 19th year, the Olympic Music Festival has announced its most ambitious season to date, welcoming many beloved festival favorites back and several new faces.
Performing at the Festival or the first time are pianist Miri Yampolsky, winner of the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition; and cellist Clancy Newman, the 2001 first prize winner at the Walter W. Naumberg Competition.
Pianist Paul Hersh, who has performed at the Festival every year since it began in 1984, will open the season with a solo performance of three works from the last months of Schuberts life. The season will also include two weekends of Mozart and an homage to Bach and a performance by the Jupiter Trio, the first-prize winner at this years Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.
Other highlights include two weekends of Brahms. The first, featuring Hersh and his sons, violinist Stefan and cellist Julian, will be July 27 and 28. The second, on August 31 and September 1, features Larry Combs, Principal Clarinet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The closing weekend, September 7 and 8, showcases Hersh and Aglika Angelova in the much-anticipated Piano Extravaganza for Four Hands.
Concerts are performed every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. from June 22 through September 8 in a restored 100-year-old barn near Quilcene. Concerts are also featured on national Public Radios Performance Today program, and on Classic KING-FM 98.1.
Tickets can be purchased by phone at (206) 527-8839 or on-line at www.ticketweb.com. For program listings and complete details, visit www.olympicmusicfestival.org. |
